OUR ROASTMASTER

Michael Matson is our Roastmaster and Operations Manager here at K&F Coffee Roasters. Matson joined the K&F family in 1999. Upon completion of college and a change of heart in pursuing a teaching career, Matson began searching for a job that allowed him to master a craft. Ever since learning the process of cupping and roasting coffee in 1995, he’s never looked back. As a rookie hired at a local specialty coffee roaster in 1995, Matson quickly discovered his passion for specialty coffee roasting and expanded his career at K&F four short years later. 

Curious by nature and passionate about adding to the knowledge base he has compiled throughout the years, Matson spends most days at K&F helping others learn the process and craft of coffee roasting and tasting. During his career at K&F, Matson has continued to expand his education through sample and production roasting, cuppings and workshops held by the Specialty Coffee Association and Roaster’s Guild. In 2018, Matson became a professionally licensed Q Grader - credentialed by the Coffee Quality Institute. 

In Matson’s spare time, he’s an avid musician and songwriter. You may also find him enjoying time with his family, 3 grown sons, his wife Raelynn, as well as his two dogs Dexter and Trixie.
